The birds of the Bering Sea are dying in droves. Port Heiden’s shores have been awash in avian carcasses for months.
Kittiwakes, murres and auklets are among them. Necropsies reveal they might have perished from starvation. Possibly disease. But perhaps it was a mix of factors.
Very odd and disconcerting, however you slice it.
